Results of the EXNESS-supported WWF Russia expedition to the Arctic summarized
The "Spring Track 2015" expedition to the Bear Islands, which is organized each year by WWF Russia, was held in April. EXNESS supported the fund's initiative. Thanks to the partnership with our company, field equipment for inspectors and observers was purchased and anti-poaching raids were organized.
Specialists who participated in the surface exploration of the Bear Islands archipelago covered more than 2000 km on snowmobiles and tractors with sleds. Spring weather this year has been characterized by extremely low temperatures and very cold and powerful winds, which complicated the work somewhat. At the same time, it may be that the foul weather contributed to a late exit of some of the she-bears from their dens.
During the expedition the specialists discovered offspring from at least ten she-bears on the Bear Islands archipelago. Over the past winter, sixteen polar bear cubs were born. All told, judging by the tracks, at least 37 bears of various ages and genders visited the islands in April.
The expedition was made possible thanks to the efforts and participation of many people. "Spring Track" was supported by WWF Russia's 4,600 adherents. EXNESS specialists also believe that preserving the polar bear is extremely important, at a time when the polar bear population is shrinking each year due to poaching and climate change. Such projects undoubtedly prove that achieving success in preserving the population is only possible thanks to the collaboration and teamwork of both the fund and people who care.
